Mary Wood: An accomplished musician and dancer, Mary and her family (five children, ages 17-6) all perform as part of the exciting fiddle and dance band, Celtic Spring. Celtic Spring has performed all over the United States. The Wood famliy has been referred to as the "Von Trapp family of Celtic music".The band has released a CD, called "At the Source", and has been featured live on ABC's "Good Morning America".
Description of program: Celtic Spring's awe-inspiring performances feature a rich variety of music from Celtic lands and beyond, with unique arrangements that range in expression from lyrical beauty to dance tempo exuberance. Mary and her five children all perform on fiddles and in dance shoes, accompanied husband and father on the traditional Irish drum, the bodhran. The Wood children's classical training is evident in their textured arrangement and musical sensitivity. The band members are also hightly accomplished Irish dancers, and showcase both the powerful "hard shoes", and the graceful "soft shoes". Throughout the show fiddles will be exchanged for dance shoes, creating the dynamic interaction between the music and the dance. Celtic Spring is a source of inspiration to other young people and brings joy and delight to audiences of all ages.
