Minikin Puppets: For over 30 years and after thousands of performances in 20 states from coast to coast, second-generation professional puppeteer & ventriloquist Nancy Mitchell and her Minikin Puppets troupe have earned the unqualified praise of educators and the enthusiastic applause of student audiences.
Description of programs: Shows are designed and built specifically to address elementary school objectives in reading, writing, vocabulary and the creative arts. Minikin assemblies pack a ton of learning into show after show after show. All shows include full teacher materials sent in advance plus Q&A sessions after performances.
Choose from among eight different teacher-acclaimed shows:
Aesop's Fables: Five of the animal stories that have made Aesop’s Fables staples of children’s literature for 2,600 years are captured anew in this all-puppet adaptation featuring marionettes, hand puppets, rod puppets and more. Minikin’s newest show and one of its most popular, Aesop, is required core literature by the Calif. Dept. of Education.
Sir George and the Dragon: From the California Schools’ Extended Reading List comes the most famous fairy tale from the Age of Heraldry. A fine centerpiece for studies of medieval times with wonderful applications in language arts, social studies, values, ethics and more.
Aladdin and the Magic Lamp: This 1,000-year-old fairy tale of a young boy’s trials and triumph over evil is also from the State Dept. of Education Recommended Reading List. A complete, 2-act, 8-scene play, this Persian fantasy captivates and informs students K-6.
Fun-Filled Variety Shows: Choose between two delightful variety shows, suitable for all ages. "The Barnum & Baloney Side Show" is a riotous trip to the circus, while "Fiesta On Strings" is just that -- a South-of-the-Border fiesta of music and merriment. Either show is a kaleidoscope of memorable sights, engrossing music, trick puppets and wholesome humor. Terrific for family nights, too!
Holiday shows for Halloween and Christmas: An October tradition at many schools, Minikin’s Freaky Follies is an off-beat look at spookdom that is more merry than scary. Or choose from two non-religious year-end holiday shows, Winter Wizardry or The Jolly Holiday Revue.
