The Gypsy Folk Ensemble: Formed in 1978 to preserve and perform folk dances from peoples around the globe. Over the years GYPSY has performed in over a thousand schools in California and Arizona for an audience of more than a quarter of a million students.

Description of programs: The company presents five dance shows suitable for all grade levels and designed to be both educational and entertaining while following the CA State Framework guidelines. All shows feature four dancers in authentic costume and include audience participation and an informative narration.

Roots of American Dance:
Includes the origins of the contra, Cajun dance, and the Tejano polka.

Pictures from the Past:
The contributions of Italian, Irish, and German immigrants to our American culture and dance.

Dances from Around the World:
Scenes of folk life and dance from Romania, the Near East, and Greece.

Echoes of Polynesia:
The influence of the environment on dance and music in Hawai'i, New Zealand, and Tahiti.

Holidays with the GYPSY FOLK ENSEMBLE:
California's multicultural heritage in dance for the holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.


Grades: all levels

Other:
Teaching sessions for students and teachers, extended residencies, and after-school programs.
