Derek Evans: A Chicago-based professional actor trained in theatre at Northwestern University, the Hedgerow Theatre, New York University and the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. Since 1969 Derek has given over 6,500 live school performances across the US for more than one million students from pre-K through 12th grade.
Description of programs: Derek brings the 26th President of the United States to your school in a lively and engaging living history performance that allows your students to meet and learn from one of the most interesting Presidents in our history. During his visit with you your students will discover Roosevelt as more than just an American President. They will learn he was an athlete, adventurer, conservationist, avid reader, scholar, philosopher, teacher, author, soldier, Nobel Prize winner, visionary, politician, playful dad, and the father of the first "Teddy" Bear! Your students will find out how through strength of character and personal responsibility he set an example for America in many ways, including overcoming childhood illness and weakness and devotion to family and country. Through their interactions with the President your students will learn about the presidency, responsibility and duty, politics, literature, the environment, and equal rights.
