Whale Wars: Onboard the
Sea Shepard

Matt Kimura

Whale Warrior on the Bob Barker

"I had such a marvelous time at your presentation. I appreciated the slides as well as giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what happened during your time on the Bob Barker."
Christine Hall

Matt Kimura: Matt is an elementary school teacher in El Dorado Hills, California. This past year he took a three month leave of absence to join the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on their annual campaign toend illegal whaling in the southern ocean off Antarctica. Their actions are chronicled each summer on the
hit Animal Planet series, Whale Wars.

As bo’sun aboard Sea Shepherd’s newest vessel, Bob Barker, Matt led an eight person deck team and drove an inflatable speed boat to battle treacherous seas to stop the eight-ship Japanese whaling fleet from slaughtering their self-imposed quota of over 1000 whales in a designated whale sanctuary. Despite having one their ships sunk and the ship he was on rammed, they managed to save over 500 whales.

Before leaving on his mission, he made a promise to his students that he would do his best to make sure that they all grew up in a world where whales are cherished and saved, not hunted down and slaughtered. He made that same promise on TV in front of millions of viewers around the world--and he kept his promise. His message to students is to stand up for your beliefs. And whether it's doing one’s school work, sports or saving the environment, always do your best.

Description of program: Matt speaks directly to students from elementary school through college. He speaks about his adventures, presenting his amazing slideshow showing the pristine beauty and incredible wildlife of Antarctica. His message is that students should follow their beliefs, try their best and do what they can to help our environment.
